CMU Scholarships and Bursaries

CMU students enrolled in one of the MA programs are invited to apply for one or more scholarships/bursaries. View the list of Graduate Studies scholarships and bursaries available. Most awards are granted in June, but in some cases there may be other scholarship or bursary money available that has not yet been assigned. Please contact the Coordinator of Financial Aid & Awards financialaid:@:cmu.ca for more information.

Full-Tuition Awards

Full-Tuition Awards are available to full-time students in the Graduate School of Theology and Ministry (GSTM). For more information, please see the GSTM Scholarships & Awards page.

Canada Graduate Scholarship

A full-time CMU graduate student is eligible for a Government of Canada Tri-Council funded Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master's Program every year. The scholarship is worth $17,500.

To be eligible to apply, students must: 

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Be enrolled in, have applied for, or will apply for full-time admission to a Masters program at Canadian Mennonite University
  • Have completed, as of December 31 of the year of the application, between zero and twelve months of full-time studies
  • Not have previously held a Canada Graduate Studies Masters Scholarship
  • Have a high academic standing
  • Plan to include a thesis or a Field Research project as part of their degree
  • Submit a maximum of one scholarship application per academic year to the Tri-Council agencies
  • Submit your application directly to SSHRC before December 1, 2020 at 8:00 PM ET

Faith Community Matching Grant

  • Graduate students attending CMU who receive financial support from their faith community can have that support matched by CMU up to $250 per semester to a maximum of $500 per year for Canadian students, and $500 per semester to a maximum of $1,000 per year for International (including US) students. This grant is only available for the fall and winter semesters. Application Form
  • CMU will begin accepting the forms on June 1 and will match funds until the budgeted amount for the program has been reached.

Tuition Tax Credits

Canadian students that enroll through CMU will pay all fees through CMU, and will receive in February the form T2202A (Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate) that can be used to claim federal and provincial non-refundable tax credits. 

Each province uses different tax rates and the amount of credits you can claim based on your T2202A varies by province; prospective students should check their provincial tax forms to find out what amounts they would be able to claim.

Government Student Loans

Canadian students will also be eligible to apply for student loans. Student loan applications open in June for the fall and winter semesters. You must apply to the province of your permanent residence. Go to www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/student-financial-aid.html and follow the links to your province.

On-Campus Employment

If you are interested in on campus employment, go to www.cmu.ca/studentemployment to download an application form. Return the completed form to the Coordinator of Financial Aid & Awards in person or by email to student_employment:@:cmu.ca.
