Chemistry Instructor & Lab Steward

Canadian Mennonite University invites applications for the position of Chemistry Instructor and Lab Steward.
The successful candidate will work with faculty to support a growing undergraduate science program, which is an integral part of all our undergraduate degree paths. We seek an individual who loves laboratory work and lab instruction, collaborates effectively and enthusiastically with students and colleagues, and actively pursues opportunities to develop and refine their skills. The ideal candidate will have a thorough grounding in chemical and biochemical laboratory techniques and instruction.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Laboratory Instruction
- Teaching laboratory classes in Introductory Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry.
- Updating and refining lab manuals, in collaboration with faculty.
Laboratory Preparation and Administration
- Preparation of equipment and solutions in advance of laboratory classes.
- Overseeing management and maintenance of lab facilities, inventory, and operation, as required.
- Facilitating compliance with chemical safety and hazardous materials regulations and standards.
- Manage lab budget, ordering laboratory equipment and supplies, as required.
- Supervising undergraduate lab assistants.
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU OFFER
- A graduate degree in organic or environmental chemistry is preferred; a combination of education and substantial laboratory experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated track record of strong teaching experience.
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
- Experience in laboratory management, including budgeting and inventory control, is an asset.
