Bridge-builder profile: Brian Grunau and Miriam Schellenberg

Brian Grunau and Miriam Schellenberg graduated from CMU in 2003. They currently live in Vancouver, where Brian works as an emergency physician at St. Paul’s Hospital and Miriam works as a school psychologist for the Vancouver School District.

Miriam and Brian recently purchased a tile as part of CMU’s Come Together: Be a Bridge Builder campaign in memory of Brian’s grandfather. When we asked them about their contribution, this is what they had to say:

We chose to remember the life of Eldon Krause (1925-2010) with a tile in contribution to the CMU Library project.

Eldon had a long commitment and passion for education and embraced this throughout his life.

Retirement as Director of Operational Research from the Canada Post only renewed his thirst for new projects and knowledge. New challenges included: Treasurer of the General Conference Mennonite Church, post-secondary courses in radio transmission and computer programming, managing the building of the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing home, and leading multiple Mennonite Disaster Services operations.

Eldon also had a passion for environmental sustainability and facilitated the installation of a geothermal system at Bethany Manor in Saskatoon. He was an active participant in the Mennonite Creation Care Network and may have been the first octogenarian to drive a hybrid car.

Eldon was a staunch, long-time supporter of CMU, and we believe that a contribution to the new CMU Library is fitting in his memory.

Among other family, Eldon is survived by his grandson, Oliver Eldon Grunau, who will hopefully one day make use of this new facility!

You can make a difference in the life of CMU for less than $14 a month. Find out how you can become a Bridge Builder and support CMU's new Library, Learning Commons and Bridge by going here and clicking on "Alumni: Buy a Tile."
