Food Services
CMU's on-campus Dining Hall provides high-quality, nutritious food service to students, staff, and visitors. The meal plan rotates on a six-week basis and offers a diverse variety of dishes.
Hours of Service
The Dining Hall is open daily from 7:45 AM – 5:45 PM.
Mealtimes are as follows:
Monday–Friday
Breakfast: 7:45–10:00 AM
Lunch: 12:00–1:00 PM
Dinner: 5:00–5:45 PM
Saturday and Statutory Holidays
Breakfast: 7:45 AM – 12:30 PM
Brunch: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Dinner: 5:00–5:45 PM
Sunday
Breakfast: 7:45–10:00 AM
Lunch: 12:00–1:00 PM
Dinner: 5:00–5:45 PM
Snack is available every night of the week from 9:00–10:30 PM.
Meal Plans
Full Meal Plan
All dormitory students are required to participate in the full board meal plan. This includes 3 hot meals a day, 7 days a week, plus snacks throughout the day and daily Evening Snack at 9:00 PM--a CMU Residence tradition!
Apartment Meal Plan
All single students living in apartment units are required to participate in the apartment meal plan. This meal plan includes one lunch and one supper per week, plus evening snack every night, in the Dining Hall and can be supplemented with additional lunches and dinners, as outlined on the Tuition and Fees webpage. The apartment meal plan does not include beverages, fruits, or snacks from the dining hall during the day and between meals.

Bag Lunch
If CMU events conflict with mealtimes (i.e., athletic games or choral performances), arrangements can be made for bag lunches and dinners to be provided by Food Services. Requests must be made 24 hours in advance.
Eco-friendly Take-out Container Program
CMU Food Services offers environmentally friendly take-out containers for on campus use. They are reusable and recyclable, reducing waste and costs created by single-use products. Students take-out meals to take to lunchtime meetings and presentations, to eat after practice, and many other reasons.
Individual Meal Purchases
Commuter students, married students living on campus, staff, faculty, and visitors are welcome to eat meals in the Dining Hall.
Dietary Requirements and Allergies
CMU Food Services takes food allergies seriously and makes every effort to accommodate students who have allergies and other dietary restrictions. We understand the importance of providing safe and nutritious choices that meet your dietary needs.
While CMU does not have allergen-free facilities and cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment, we take every precaution to minimize the risk of exposure, encourage self-responsibility and strive to provide the most up-to-date ingredient information.
Steps you can take to manage your allergies:
- Connect with the Director of Food Services – Students with a food allergy are encouraged to meet with and/or contact our Director of Food Services to discuss food allergies, intolerances, food preferences (vegan, vegetarian), and nutrition-related medical conditions. Contact the Director of Food Services.
- Self-identify – Students coming to CMU with food allergies or serious dietary restrictions should identify themselves to our Food Services staff, who will be happy to answer your questions and help you make appropriate food choices. If you have an allergy or diet restriction, please let the staff know!
- Ask before you eat – Although CMU Food Services takes measures to accommodate the dietary needs of our students, it is the responsibility of the student with the food allergy to inquire about ingredients and preparation to avoid their food allergens.If you are unsure of the ingredients in a food item, be sure to ask food service staff for more information.
Training
Our Food Services staff have completed a health and safety training course, which specifically focuses on allergens, food safety and cross-content prevention.
Our Director of Food Services has received certification from AllerTrain, a food allergy training course focusing on safely accommodating students with allergies.
Food Allergy Disclaimer
Canadian Mennonite University does not have allergen-free food service facilities.
While we make every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause reactions in people with food allergies and inform our staff of the potential severity of food allergies, there is always a risk of cross contact, especially at self-serve stations.
Our kitchen produces baked goods that contain wheat, nuts, and other allergens. We cannot guarantee the absence of cross contact in our baked foods. The common allergens identified on our labels are based on ingredients listed in the recipe and supplier product information. There is the possibility that food manufacturers may change product ingredients at any time and without our knowledge.
Ingredient content of foods may vary due to changes in product formulation, recipe substitutions, portion size and other factors. Students with concerns need to be aware of these risks. CMU cannot guarantee that food prepared on-site has not come into contact with allergens and will not assume any liability for adverse reactions that may occur in the dining facilities.
Dress Code
The Dining Hall is a public space; there are times when rental groups on the CMU campus will also be using the Dining Hall. Appropriate dress is required and proper footwear must be worn in the Dining Hall at all times.
