Major in English within the Bachelor of Arts
Both the three-year and the four-year Bachelor of Arts with a major in English provide a breadth of exposure to the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. These degrees prepare students well for any area of employment or vocation with valuable skills—communication, writing, analytical thinking, critical thinking, and organizing. A three- or a four-year B.A. in English also serves as a sound basis for launching into professional studies such as education, social work, law, and so on.
Major in English within the 4-year Bachelor of Arts
A four-year major will give the added advantage of at least 6 more courses in the area of English and the opportunity to take more upper-level courses. More general elective space means that the students can readily include a minor in a second field of interest. Furthermore, the four-year major in English can provide the basis from which to apply for admission to M.A. programs in English. The four-year degree is becoming the standard undergraduate expectation across North America.
Major in Communications and English within the 4-year Bachelor of Arts
At CMU, we offer an interdisciplinary program that equips students with professional communication skills for today's job market. Our program emphasizes the importance of strong communication skills, including writing, critical thinking, and presentation skills, while incorporating training in modern media techniques such as audio, video, and graphic design. Through engagement with literature's great writers, such as Homer, Shakespeare, Austen, and Atwood, students learn to think across mediums and skill sets, crafting their own original stories, images, films, and audio recordings. This program provides an invaluable foundation for aspiring communications specialists to succeed in their careers.
Major in Humanities within the 4-year Bachelor of Arts
This interdisciplinary major in Humanities gives students grounding in the core humanities disciplines of History, Philosophy, and English Literature. It will provide for a flexible combination of these and other humanities interests across disciplinary lines. This degree is ideal for students interested in careers in government, education, journalism, and Law.
