Communication, fundraising and community engagement seems more challenging than ever, what with all the new technologies, so many communication channels, the many pressing needs vying for attention, and changes in the media landscape.
How do churches and non-profit groups share their messages and reach new audiences in this digital world? Or do we already have all the tools we need— do we just need to find new and creative ways to use them? And how do we reach out and share messages with boomers—that large segment of the Canadian population that is looking for new ways to be meaningfully engaged in the world?
Presenters
Owen Charters*, CEO, CanadaHelps
- Presentation: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Future of Fundraising.
- Giving in Canada is going down. Statistics Canada reports that the number of tax filers reporting a donation is at a 30-year low. Total donations dropped to $7.75 billion in 2009 from $8.19 billion in 2008 and $8.65 billion in 2007. What's going on? And how can non-profits adapt to this new world of giving?
- Workshop: Everything Old is New Again: The Fundamentals of Fundraising in the Digital World.
- There are lots of new ways for people to communicate today, but one thing hasn't changed—people are still moved by real stories of real people. How can non-profits find those stories and share them with givers?
Bill Roberts, President and CEO of Vision TV
- Presentation: Going Barefoot with Boomers: The New Va Va Voom Demographic!
- Why reach out to boomers? For starters, they are the only demographic that is growing. But not only that–they are the wealthiest demographic in history, they vote, they write letters to politicians, they volunteer and they donate. In other words, says Bill, you can't afford not to reach out to them.
- Workshop: ZoomerMedia Limited—TV Still Has a Future!
- Despite the growth of social media, use isn't declining. It continues to be one of the most effective means of communication. How can you take advantage of TV to share your message? Join Bill for a discussion about where Vision TV is going, and how your group can be part of it.
Gayle Goosen, Founder and Creative Director, Barefoot Creative
- Workshop 1: Fund raising or Brand raising? The power of brand in the non-profit sector.
- Brand often seems to be an illusive idea, especially in faith-centric organizations. But the power of brand builds sustainability, donor loyalty and increased effectiveness. How can groups move from raising funds to raising awareness about their brand?
- Workshop 2: Fund-amentals. A focused approach to growth-oriented fund raising.
- Time to go back to basics! In the midst of social media, competitive environments and numerous charitable causes, what are the key things non-profits must focus on to succeed?
