Careers in the General Sciences
A general Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree offers a wide range of career options as it provides a broad laboratory science education. Many CMU graduates from CMU's science program have gone on to enter medical school to become doctors and nurses. Possible career options of those with a BSc in the General Sciences may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Science writer – communicating scientific information to the public through articles, blogs, and other media.
- Sales representative – selling pharmaceutical products, scientific equipment, or supplies to labs, companies, healthcare professionals, or hospitals.
- Quality control / assurance specialist – testing and monitoring products in manufacturing plants to ensure they meet proper specifications and regulations.
- Technical writer – creating instruction manuals and documentation for scientific and technical products.
- Health and safety officer – ensuring that the workplace is up-to-date with health and safety regulations to ensure employee safety.
- Laboratory technician – helping scientists in a research environment in a lab or industry.
- Analytical chemist – analysing substances using scientific methods and instruments to understand their chemical composition.
- Research and Development specialist – creating new products or discovering new knowledge in scientific fields such as electronics, production and manufacturing, and product development.
- Project manager – coordinating, supervising, and completing scientific development projects.
- Entrepreneur – using science knowledge, identify opportunities and create new businesses.
