What: Poettcker Hall as a Living Testament
Poettcker Hall isn't just a building; it's a living testament of CMU's history. From late-night study sessions to impromptu music in lounges, every nook and cranny has absorbed the laughter, tears, and dreams of students. Its halls resonate with the footsteps of young scholars, artists, and leaders who have lived within its walls. Through this project we not only uphold the collective memories of those who have lived here before, but we ensure that there is a vibrant and sustainable space for the students who are still to come.
At the heart of the Uphold campaign is the well-being and flourishing of our students. Students need fresh air, functioning washroom facilities, temperature control, electricity/connectivity, and accessible spaces to grow and thrive. This is as critical to their ability to develop relationships and community as it is to their capacity to learn and achieve academically. Studies demonstrate that students who live in on-campus housing enjoy better mental health, stronger personal relationships, and higher grades than those who do not. This project will address these basic student needs.
The proposed project aims to complete the renovation of Poettcker Hall by August 2025, transforming the residence experience for current and future generations of CMU students. These renovations will not only ensure that future CMU students will have a place to call home on our campus, but that they will embody the best of CMU's mission.
