Music Merit Awards

Merit Awards recognize CMU students who are gifted in specific areas of achievement and who desire to excel and contribute to CMU in these areas. Each year up to 19 Merit Awards ($1000-$1500 per year up to four years) are given to students upon entering CMU.

Music Merit Awards recognize CMU students who are gifted in music and who desire to enter a music program at CMU. Each year up to 4 Music Merit Awards (maximum value $6,000; $1500 per year up to four years) are awarded to students entering CMU. In order to qualify for a Music Merit Award, students submit this application, submit an audition form and have one nomination submitted from someone involved in music (e.g. music teacher, choral director). All materials must be submitted no later than February 28.

Eligibility

A student may apply for one or all of the Merit Awards and also for a Leadership Scholarship. However, students may only receive one Merit Award (Academic, Music, Science, Business, or Athletic) or the Leadership Scholarship.

Application Requirements

The following are required to be considered for the Music Merit Award:

  1. A completed music application form, including two or three paragraphs (250 words) on what inspires and motivates you to pursue your chosen area of study. This can be completed through your application status portal.
  2. An audition with 2 contrasting pieces
  3. A nomination form submitted by someone who can recommend you to CMU's School of Music. This will be automatically sent to your nominator at the time of form completion.

Application forms must be submitted by February 28 to be eligible. Application forms are available to current CMU applicants on their application portal.
