Below are a series of frequently asked questions about residence life. If you have questions that aren't covered by any of the dropdowns below, you can contact the Residence Life team.
While there is no official residence deadline, residence rooms can fill up fast. We strongly suggest that students submit their applications as soon as applications open so as to have the best chance at getting their first choice of accommodation. Check the application portal for the exact date that housing applications open. Typically it is available beginning mid-March.
Our Residence Life team works hard to provide students with their first choice of housing, however the capacity depends on the number of residence applications each year. Normally, students in their first year will be assigned dorms and apartments are reserved for upper-year and mature students.
Incoming students can contact their admissions counsellor, and they will help with any residence questions.
We strongly recommend you pack the following:
Other items that students often like to bring:
* Small electric kettles are permitted in residence, provided there is no exposed element and the appliance is in good working order.
** Tape, pins, and nails are not allowed for hanging décor or personal items. Excessive wall/ceiling coverings and live Christmas trees are also not permitted.
The following are not permitted in our residence buildings:
* Each dorm comes equipped with permanent furniture which leaves little room for additional furniture. Small side tables, shelves or chairs are permitted.
Yes, during the school year, storage is made available for free for residence students to store luggage and boxes. During the summer, there is a $20 charge per storage unit for students who wish to store items.
We expect all students to arrive on their designated move-in day. On move-in day, we have students and staff available to help you move in, programming to help you meet the people on your floor, and a chance to get to know other students before Orientation and class begin! We also have awesome events happening all through the week, so please plan on staying on campus to get to know your roommate and classmates better! Staff may not be available to check you into residence if you arrive outside the times outlined here.
If you are an international undergraduate student between the ages of 17-25, you will be a part of the Bridge Transition Program, where the first semester of dorm living is included in the cost of the program. Living in dorms is mandatory for the first semester.

If you have a car and want to park on campus, you can pay for a parking pass and scramble park in the Lot P residence parking lot all year long. There are plug-ins at every spot for the block heater in your car.
If you like to bike, there is a residence only bike shed, where you pay $20 for a key to access the shed, and you can safely park your bike there all year. When the year is done, you will get your deposit returned if you return the key. There are also outside bike racks close to the South building, Marpeck and North building for moments when you need to park your bike for short periods of time.
The 66 bus comes down Grant Avenue and stops right in front of campus. The 95 and 18 also stop within a 20-minute walk from campus. There are bus tickets available at CommonWord, and a Winnipeg Transit Bus Pass is available for purchase at the nearest Shoppers Drug Mart (a 20-minute walk or 5-minute bus ride away).
Students are paired with roommates who expressed similar preferences and interests in their residence applications. This means you will likely be matched with a roommate who has similar noise preferences; however, residence does not have a designated quiet floor, and we cannot guarantee that you will be on a floor with other quiet people. Remember to fill out the Housing Survey in your application so we know where best to place you.
The residence application contains a series of questions on your personal preferences and interests (e.g. sleeping schedule, music tolerance, etc.). Students are paired with roommates who expressed similar preferences and interests on their residence applications.
You can also request a particular roommate. There is a section in the residence application that allows you fill in the name of your preferred roommate; however, it is very important that your selected roommate has also requested you in their Residence Application. If they have not requested you, your request will not go through.
The hallways in Concord are co-ed, but the single and double room suite pairings are typically the same gender. In Poettcker Hall, the East and West wings are typically separated according to gender. If you have any concerns about where to live, please contact the Residence Director for further information.
Residence Life strives to send out roommate assignments with their housing assignments in early-mid summer (for students moving in September). Students who apply after initial housing assignments have been sent out will not receive their roommate assignment before move-in day. Winter term incoming students will receive their roommate assignments on move-in day. If both you and your roommate consent to having each other's emails exchanged in the Housing Survey, you can request that your roommate's information be sent to you prior to move-in day.
A Residence Assistant! There is a Residence Assistant on every floor in residence who is happy to answer questions, unlock doors, and plan floor events. Find out more about Student Leadership positions.
There is no curfew. However, quiet hours are implemented from 11:30 PM – 7:00 AM. We ask that students living in residence be considerate of the other people living around them.

It is important to note that guests cannot stay more than three days at a time and are subject to the same community guidelines as students while they are staying on campus. Temporary guest parking passes can be found at the South Reception that allows guests to park in the residence parking lot.
