Pre-Professional - Education
One of the advantages of studying at CMU is having an opportunity to take courses that could prepare you for degree programs of professional faculties or schools at various universities. This way you can study Bible and theology and be part of a vibrant Christian community—while looking ahead to future studies in areas like law, education, medicine and others.

Earning a baccalaureate degree at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) could prepare you to meet the entrance requirements for a baccalaureate program in education. This page explains what you must complete if you wish to continue studies at the University of Manitoba in its after-degree Bachelor of Education program. If you intend to pursue studies at some other university, similar possibilities exist. However, it is important that you inquire about admission and program requirements at the university you are considering and that you work with the Coordinator of Student Advising at CMU to construct a program of studies at CMU that will achieve your objectives.

To become eligible for admission to the After-degree B.Ed. in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba, you must earn a baccalaureate degree that includes a distribution of ‘teachable’ courses to meet requirements of either the Early Years, Middle Years, or Senior Years streams. The distribution requirements of the Early Years or the Middle Years streams are as follows:

The requirements for admission to the Senior Years stream is as follows:

The minimum GPA required for admission is 2.0 with a minimum grade of “C” in each teachable course. However, admission is granted on a competitive basis, so successful applicants will have a GPA much higher than 2.0.

At CMU you could complete the following teachable majors:

•  Biology
•  English
•  Geography
•  History
•  Music
•  Mathematics
•  General Sciences for Early, Middle and Secondary Years

At CMU, you may complete teachable minors in the same subject fields as listed above.  In addition, the following teachable minors are available at CMU for those preparing to teach the Early or Middle years: French, German, Political Studies, Philosophy, Political Studies, Psychology, and Sociology.

Be sure to consult with the Coordinator of Student Advising at CMU and with the general calendar of the University of Manitoba to determine combinations of subject areas appropriate to the grade level at which you hope to teach and the specific courses that must be taken within those subject areas.
