Peacebuilding is more than conflict reduction. It involves actively building the relationships and economic and political structures that foster holistic peace. The Anabaptist theology of peace and service, which lies at the heart of the Institute for Community Peacebuilding, offers a rich heritage for pressing needs in communities around the world.

The Institute was established by Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) in 2005 through the generous support of John Dueck, a retired farmer who is a member of Winnipeg's Bethel Mennonite Church.
